Which AI reads your site first?

In my first video, four AIs gave 200 answers and my new site got zero. Eight hours later, Claude cited it three times. ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity? Still zero. So I checked who'd actually been reading it.

Claude's crawler had been round the most: 32 visits on day one, against 17 from OpenAI's bots and one from Perplexity's. That could be why Claude cited me first. It could also be nothing, because OpenAI's bot read the page Claude cited and ChatGPT still didn't cite it.

How to find ClaudeBot and GPTBot in your logs

  1. Find the AI bots in your logs. I use Cloudflare. Look for these names in the user agent: ClaudeBot, Claude-User, GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot and PerplexityBot.
  2. Count each bot's visits. Group them by bot, status and path. In the 24 hours to 00:45 UTC on 19 Oct that was ClaudeBot 32, GPTBot 15, OAI-SearchBot 2 and PerplexityBot 1, counting successful requests only.
  3. Ask the same questions again. I used nine of the baseline's questions, word for word, about Bosham and Emsworth, through the same four models.
  4. See who cites you. Claude cited me in three of its six answers, all about Bosham, and once as its first source. ChatGPT got 0 of 6, Gemini 0 of 7 and Perplexity 0 of 6.

Gemini isn't on the list of bots because Google doesn't crawl under a Gemini name. Googlebot came 50 times, for whatever that's worth.

Can ChatGPT see my website?

Yes. GPTBot fetched /bosham/ twice in those 24 hours, and ChatGPT cited it in none of its six answers. So being read didn't get me cited, or at least not that fast.

Is that why Claude cited me?

Maybe not. Three answers isn't a trend, and this run has problems of its own:

The full re-check ran on 2 Nov, and I'll post what it found. The results go on the 001 page.

What's in the repo

The nine questions, all 25 answers with their raw API responses, the failed calls and Cloudflare's crawler counts. The same check.py from 001 recounts them offline, so you can check me without paying for anything.
