Will AI ever cite my website?
I asked ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity 50 questions about house prices on the south coast. Rightmove got cited in 104 of the answers. My new site got zero.
In fairness, it was a day old.

How I tested it
- Write the questions down before you publish anything, so you can't move the goalposts later. Mine are ten places near Chichester, five questions each: average price, going up or down, expensive or not, flooding, sales a year.
- Ask all four in the same hour and save every answer. All 200 came back in ten minutes, through OpenRouter with web search on, one new chat per question.
- Count who gets cited. That's the baseline.
- Publish pages that answer those exact questions, then ask again.
Who got cited
| Site | Answers citing it |
|---|---|
| rightmove.co.uk | 104 |
| zoopla.co.uk | 37 |
| housesforsaletorent.co.uk | 21 |
| ons.gov.uk | 20 |
| onthemarket.com | 19 |
| southcoasthouseprices.co.uk | 0 |
A site counts once per answer, and only if the answer itself uses it. Perplexity hands back every search result it looked at, about 27 an answer, so I only count the ones it actually references. My first count got that wrong and said Rightmove 122. Recounting the saved answers gave 104.
What happens next
Same questions, asked again. The first full re-check is on 2 Nov 2026 and the results go here. Will it work? No idea.
